What is Apache ShenYu?
Apache ShenYu is a native Java API gateway dedicated to service proxy, protocol conversion, and API governance. High performance, multi-protocol, extensible, and reactive, it sits at the core of microservices architectures to route and secure traffic.
ShenYu executes requests through a plugin chain (responsibility chain), all extensible and activable on the fly : authentication, rate limiting, circuit breaker, observability… Routing data is cached in memory (JVM) for high performance, and updated dynamically via ZooKeeper, WebSocket push, or HTTP long polling.
It supports a wide range of protocols : HTTP, RESTful, WebSocket, as well as Dubbo, gRPC, Spring Cloud, Tars, SOFA, and MQTT. Proven under very high traffic volumes, ShenYu is a leading project of the Apache Foundation.

Does ShenYu replace a commercial gateway?
Yes for most needs : proxy, protocol conversion, authentication, rate limiting, and observability, with plugin extensibility — all open source and self-hosted.
Which protocols are supported?
HTTP, RESTful, and WebSocket, but also Dubbo, gRPC, Spring Cloud, Tars, SOFA, and MQTT, with protocol conversion handled at the gateway.
Where is the data hosted?
On DINAO's infrastructure in France, in one of the available datacenters. Your API traffic and configuration never leave the territory.
Are technical skills required?
Yes, to integrate the gateway into your microservices and configure the plugins : it is an infrastructure component. DINAO handles installation, clustering, security, and updates.
Can I scale the gateway?
Yes. You can add nodes to handle more traffic and enable high availability, without proprietary lock-in.
