Overview

What is Apache IoTDB?

Apache IoTDB (Internet of Things Database) is a time-series-oriented database management system, featuring functions for collecting, storing, managing, and analyzing chronological data produced by connected devices and industrial equipment. Lightweight and high-performance, it offers very high ingestion and query capabilities while maintaining a small disk footprint.

IoTDB relies on a hierarchical data model (storage group, device, sensor) and its column format TsFile, which enables advanced compression of signals. It provides rich temporal queries: aggregations, time-series alignment, time windows, and uses a syntax close to SQL.

Regarding integration, it supports ingestion via MQTT, Session/JDBC and REST interfaces, and interfaces with the big data ecosystem (Spark, Flink, Hadoop) as well as with Grafana for visualization. It can be deployed in standalone mode or as a replicated cluster for high availability.

FAQ

You might be wondering…

What is Apache IoTDB used for?

IoTDB is a database specialized in time-series data from sensors and industrial equipment. It excels at collecting, storing, and querying huge volumes of timestamped measurements with a low disk footprint.

How do I send data from my sensors?

Via integrated protocols (MQTT, Session/JDBC interface, REST API) and connectors for Spark, Flink, or Hadoop. Visualization is notably done with Grafana.

Where is the data hosted?

On DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available datacenters. Your sensor readings never leave the territory — an advantage over foreign cloud IoT platforms.

Do I need technical skills?

DINAO handles installation, clustering, updates, and monitoring. Your teams focus on sending data and running SQL-like queries or via the API.

Can IoTDB handle the load of a large sensor fleet?

Yes. Designed for IoT, it handles millions of points per second and deploys in a replicated cluster for high availability and horizontal scaling.
