What is 1Backend?
1Backend is an open-source AI-native microservices platform that brings together a framework, a proxy and a runtime to quickly build distributed applications. It hides infrastructure complexity and provides out-of-the-box authentication, user accounts, email and a built-in ORM — to the point where you can develop without a database at startup.
Its unique feature: 1Backend allows you to run and program LLMs directly in containers, as close to your data as possible. The platform manages microservice and microfrontend routing via a unified proxy, with automatic service discovery and a zero-trust, zero-config approach.
Thanks to multi-tenancy support, a single installation can host multiple applications — ideal for publishers and agencies. The project, under the AGPL-3.0 license, deploys in containers and comes with a CLI toolset to manage and deploy services.

The container hosts the application, not the AI engine (which requires dedicated GPUs) : inference is handled externally, with your own provider key. Prioritize a sovereign engine — Mistral AI, NumSpot, Scaleway, or OVHcloud AI Endpoints (France, GDPR) ; an international provider (OpenAI, Anthropic…) only if a specific capability requires it. Inference subscriptions are not included in hosting.

Who is 1Backend for?

Is LLM execution sovereign?
Yes, in local mode: models run in your containers on the DINAO instance in France. If you call an external API, data leaves to the provider.
Where is data hosted?
On DINAO infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your applications and data do not leave the territory in local mode.
Are technical skills required?
Yes: 1Backend is a platform for developers. DINAO manages installation, security and platform updates; your teams develop on top via the CLI and API.
Can I change plans or export my data?
Yes. You can move up or down tiers at any time, and your data remains exportable — no proprietary lock-in.
