Overview

What is ViewTube?

ViewTube is an open source and privacy-respecting frontend for YouTube content. It allows you to watch, search, and discover videos without ads or tracking, with an interface designed for both mobile and desktop: light and dark themes, a touch player with gestures, and smooth navigation.

Unlike official apps, ViewTube does not use the YouTube API: it retrieves data from the site using a combination of custom tools and open source libraries. You can create an account independent of YouTube, read comments, watch playlists, subscribe to channels, and receive push notifications for new uploads.

Technically, ViewTube is built with Nuxt (frontend) and Nest (backend), and deploys easily in a Docker container — ideal for a managed and supervised service.
