Translate your applications without leaving France
Tolgee is the localization (i18n) platform that reconciles developers and translators: in-context editing, translation memory, and ready-to-use SDKs. The open-source and sovereign alternative to Lokalise, hosted in France by DINAO.
What is Tolgee?
Tolgee is an open-source localization (i18n) platform designed to bring developers and translators together. Its signature feature is in-context editing: by holding the ALT key and clicking on text directly within the application, an editing window opens that shows exactly where the string is displayed — no more out-of-context translations.
The platform includes a translation memory that automatically suggests previously used phrasing (with a similarity percentage), screenshot management by sentence, and machine translation via your own API keys. On the technical side, SDKs for React, Angular, Vue, and Svelte, a CLI, and a REST API integrate it into your development pipeline.
A self-hostable alternative to Lokalise or Crowdin, Tolgee is built with TypeScript and Kotlin and deploys easily in a container. You retain full control over your keys, translations, and data — the ideal option for sovereign localization.

Technical details
You might be wondering…
What is in-context editing?
Your translators hold the ALT key and click on text directly within the running application to edit it. This allows them to see exactly where and how the string is displayed, eliminating mistranslations.
Does Tolgee replace Lokalise or Crowdin?
Yes, it is an open-source, self-hosted alternative to these SaaS platforms. You keep the key features (in-context editing, memory, SDKs) while hosting your data yourself, in France.
Is machine translation included?
Tolgee interfaces with machine translation engines (DeepL, Google, etc.) via your own API keys. You retain control over the provider and billing.
Where are my translations stored?
On DINAO infrastructure in France. Your keys, translations, and screenshots never leave the territory.
How do I integrate it into my code?
Via official SDKs (React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, JS/TS), the CLI, and the REST API. You can sync translations in your CI/CD pipeline and trigger exports via webhook.
