What is Steel Browser?
Steel Browser is an open source headless browser API designed for AI agents, scrapers, and automation tools. It is a turnkey browser sandbox: it wraps Chrome/Chromium in a layer of REST API and WebSocket and handles all the complexity of running browsers at scale.
Steel includes advanced session management (restart with custom options, extensions, proxies, state reset), an anti-detection layer (stealth, WebGL and navigator fingerprint management, viewport randomization), ad blocking, and proxy support. Typed Node and Python SDKs, compatible with Puppeteer/Playwright approaches, allow your agents to navigate and act on the web without you having to build the infrastructure yourself.

This application uses AI
The container hosts the application, not the AI engine (which requires dedicated GPUs) : inference is handled externally, with your own provider key. Prioritize a sovereign engine — Mistral AI, NumSpot, Scaleway, or OVHcloud AI Endpoints (France, GDPR) ; an international provider (OpenAI, Anthropic…) only if a specific capability requires it. Inference subscriptions are not included in hosting.

What is Steel Browser for?
To provide your AI agents, scrapers, and automations with a real API-driven browser, without managing the Chrome infrastructure yourself: sessions, anti-detection, proxies, and ad blocking are included.
How does my AI agent connect?
Via a REST/WebSocket API and typed Node or Python SDKs. Steel is compatible with the Puppeteer/Playwright tools your agents already use.
Does Steel Browser reason on my behalf?
No: Steel provides the browser and infrastructure. It is your AI agent (or LLM) that decides on actions. To remain sovereign, connect it to a model hosted in France — see the sovereignty box.
Does scraping protected sites work?
Steel includes an anti-detection layer (stealth, fingerprint management, proxies) that significantly improves success rates on modern sites, while respecting the terms of use of visited sites.
Where are sessions hosted?
On DINAO's infrastructure in France, in a dedicated and isolated container. Your sessions and browsing data do not leave the territory.
