Overview

What is MeTube?

MeTube is a self-hosted web interface for yt-dlp, which allows you to download media from YouTube and dozens of other platforms directly via a browser — an accessible alternative to command-line online downloading.

It handles multi-format downloads (videos, audio, subtitles, thumbnails), batch operations (playlists and channels with configurable settings), subscription management (automatic periodic checks for new content), customizable file naming (output templates), support for over 100 sites, integration via Chrome and Firefox extensions, iOS shortcuts and bookmarklets, as well as configuration presets and per-download overrides.

Built in Python (around the yt-dlp library) with a TypeScript / Angular frontend, MeTube exposes a REST API and a WebSocket channel (real-time status). It deploys via Docker. It does not include authentication: access is secured at the reverse proxy level. AGPL-3.0 license.
