Overview

What is Mealie?

Mealie is an self-hosted recipe manager and meal planner, with a REST API backend and a reactive Vue frontend, designed to provide a pleasant experience for the whole family. You can easily add recipes by simply providing an URL (automatic data import) or via the interface editor.

It features an integrated meal planner, shopping lists organized in customizable sections, cookbooks to group recipes, support for over 35 languages, and a REST API for third-party integrations.

Built in Python (using the FastAPI framework) with a Vue.js frontend, Mealie uses SQLite by default or PostgreSQL for larger instances. It deploys via Docker and manages multi-user access through local authentication, LDAP, or OpenID Connect (OIDC). AGPL-3.0 license.

How do I add my recipes?

The easiest way: paste the recipe URL and Mealie automatically extracts ingredients and steps. You can also enter everything manually in the editor.

Is my cooking data private?

Yes. Your recipes, schedules, and shopping lists remain on your DINAO instance in France, with no advertising profiling.

Does Mealie support multiple users and languages?

Yes. Mealie is multi-user (local authentication, LDAP, OIDC) and available in over 35 languages — ideal for a whole family or group.

Does Mealie use AI?

Ingredient parsing uses local processing by default. An optional AI feature (disabled by default) can be connected to a local alternative like Ollama to remain sovereign.

Can I change plans or export my recipes?

Yes. Your recipes remain exportable, and you can upgrade or downgrade at any time — no proprietary lock-in.
