What is LimeSurvey?
LimeSurvey is an open-source, recognized online survey and questionnaire platform, positioned as a free alternative to SurveyMonkey, Typeform, Qualtrics, or Google Forms. It allows you to create an unlimited number of surveys and questions, from simple forms to elaborate scientific surveys.
It offers more than 30 question types, hundreds of templates, conditional logic (skip logic / branching), quotas, and support for multilingual surveys (over 80 languages). A RemoteControl API (XML-RPC / JSON-RPC) facilitates integration and automation.
A classic PHP application relying on MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL, LimeSurvey emphasizes GDPR compliance and data control. Hosted in a container by DINAO in France, it ensures that your respondents' answers remain your property.

Who owns the collected responses?
You do. All participant responses and contact details are stored in your instance's database, hosted in France. DINAO does not access or exploit them.
Is LimeSurvey GDPR compliant?
Yes. LimeSurvey includes compliance-oriented features (anonymization, consent management, access control) and, when hosted by DINAO in France with a DPA, it meets GDPR requirements.
Can I create complex questionnaires?
Yes: more than 30 question types, conditional logic (skip logic / branching), quotas, and ready-to-use templates allow for both simple forms and advanced surveys.
Can a survey be distributed in multiple languages?
Yes. LimeSurvey supports multilingual surveys (over 80 interface languages), with a single questionnaire definition adapted per language.
