What is LanguageTool?
LanguageTool is an open-source language corrector that goes far beyond simple spell-checking. It detects spelling, grammar, punctuation errors, and suggests style improvements in over 30 languages (French, English, German, Spanish, Dutch…).
Its engine combines pattern-based rules and, optionally, statistical n-gram models capable of detecting word confusions that are otherwise hard to spot. You can enrich dictionaries and write your own rules to match your organization's specific vocabulary.
LanguageTool integrates everywhere via its HTTP API : browser extensions, modules for LibreOffice and text editors, and integration into CMSs or custom applications. Self-hosted with DINAO, it offers the same correction quality as the public service, but without sending your texts — often confidential — to a third-party server: everything is analyzed in France, on your instance.

Do my texts go to the cloud?
No. With the instance managed by DINAO, everything is analyzed on your server in France. This is the main benefit of self-hosting: your confidential content never leaves your infrastructure.
Can I use it in the browser?
Yes. Browser extensions can be configured to point to your instance, and the API integrates with your editors, CMSs, and internal applications.
What are n-gram data?
These are statistical models that improve the detection of word confusions (e.g., 'their' vs. 'there'). DINAO can enable them on higher-tier plans, at the cost of slightly more storage and RAM.
Where is the data hosted?
On DINAO's infrastructure in France, in one of the available data centers. Your texts never leave the country.
