What is Joplin Server?
Joplin Server is the official synchronization backend for Joplin, the open-source Markdown note-taking application. It allows you to synchronize your notes, notebooks, tags, and attachments across all your devices — desktop, mobile, and web — via your own server, rather than through a third-party cloud like Dropbox or OneDrive.
Its key advantage is end-to-end encryption: when enabled, your notes are encrypted on your device before reaching the server, which then stores only unreadable data. Even the host cannot access your content, placing privacy at a level that consumer services typically do not offer.
Joplin Server supports multiple users and allows notebook sharing, making it a note-taking solution for both personal and collaborative use. Built on PostgreSQL and deployed via Docker, it integrates seamlessly into a self-hosted infrastructure. At DINAO, it is a managed service in France: you retain full control and sovereignty over your notes.

Can DINAO read my notes?
No, if you enable Joplin's end-to-end encryption. Your notes are encrypted on your device before being sent: the server stores only encrypted data, of which you alone hold the key.
On which devices can I sync?
On Joplin apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and the web app. All sync with your Joplin Server to access your notebooks everywhere.
How is this better than Evernote or Notion?
Joplin is free, Markdown-based, end-to-end encryptable, and here hosted in France on your own server. You are no longer dependent on a vendor hosting your notes abroad and changing terms at will.
Can I share notebooks with my team?
Yes. Joplin Server supports multiple accounts and allows sharing notebooks between users in your organization, making it a collaborative note-taking tool.
Where are the data hosted?
